What's inside, item by item

  1. One man tent

    Robens Arrow Head Tent 2021

We chose the Robens Arrow Head because it is a step up in price from our entry one man tent. Put its weight and packed size next to your old tent's on its page before you decide.

  2. Self-inflating mat

    Highlander Expedition Self Inflate Mat

Mats have changed a lot in recent years: a self-inflating mat fills itself with foam and air and keeps more of your heat off the ground. If you replace only one thing, make it this.

Upgrade Kit

Two things to replace first if your camping kit is years old: the tent and the mat. Mats have changed a lot, and a self-inflating one is a different night from thin foam.

£149.94for all 2 items

The same as buying each item on its own.

  • The one man tent is out of stock, so the kit can't go in your basket right now.
Good for
  • Returning campers with old or missing kit
  • Anyone who has slept badly on a thin foam mat
  • A step up from our entry one man tent
Not for
  • A first night on a tight budget: the First Solo Night Kit costs less
  • Two people: see the Two-Person Kit
  • Winter camping

What's not included, and why

  • No sleeping bag. If yours still keeps you warm, keep it.
  • No rucksack or stove. Old ones often still work. Check the stove's seals and that it fits the gas you can buy.

When and where you can use it

Use it from April to October; in winter you need a warmer mat and a 4-season tent.

The law may have changed since you last camped: the Supreme Court confirmed the right to wild camp on the Dartmoor Commons in May 2025. Check where you are allowed to pitch before you go.

Your first night with this kit

Read it before you go: it takes a first night out alone from planning to packing up.

Questions people ask

My old tent still keeps me dry. Should I replace it?
Not if you're happy carrying it. Replace the mat first: that's where old kit has fallen furthest behind.
Is it cheaper as a kit?
No. It costs the same as buying each item separately.
